Terms and Conditions


Please see below our booking terms and conditions. ‘The Hirer’ is the person or persons named on the booking form.  ‘The Company’ is Bridgewater Cruises representing Bridgewater Heritage Boat Company as one entity.


Booking

A booking is only confirmed once a of deposit of 20% of the Hire Charge has been received by the Company. The balance of the Hire Charge is due 4 weeks prior to your holiday departure date. For bookings less than 4 weeks prior to holiday departure the full amount is due at time of booking. The price of the holiday includes a full tank of fuel and an empty toilet tank. The cost of any additional toilet tank pump outs are to be be covered by the Hirer.

Security Deposit

A £300 cash security deposit will be required on the day of arrival. This will be returned providing all the equipment onboard is present and in good condition and there is no damage to the companies boat.


Hire period, Collection and return

The hire period is as shown in the booking confirmation. The Company will endeavor to have the boat ready for the Hirer at the time specified on the start date. The Hirer must notify the company of any likely delay in arrival by telephone. The Hirer is responsible for returning the boat back to its base on time on the end date. Failure to do so will result in an additional charge of £40.00 per hour. We therefore recommend you leave plenty of time for your return journey. The Hirer must also insure the boat is returned in a clean, tidy condition and all equipment onboard is accounted for.

Boat Operation Rules

The Hirer agrees to operate the boat in a safe manner and take into consideration other canal users as well as members of the public using the towpaths.

The Hirer agrees to abide by the speed limit of 4mph. The Hirer will be liable for any damage to the boat or its engine caused by speeding or inproper use.

The Hirer agrees to slow down for moored boats and members of the public fishing the Bridgewater Canal.

The use of alcohol is not permitted whilst the boat is underway. The drink drive law on the canal is the same as the road.

Under no circumstances is the boat allowed off the Bridgewater Canal.

The Hirer is under no circumstances allowed to take the boat through a lock. 

Under no circumstances is any more than 6 persons allowed onboard.

The Hirer will not tow any other craft or be towed by any other craft.

The Hirer will not cruise between sunset and sunrise.

Other Rules

Only smokeless coal purchased from the company can be used on the multifuel stove. No logs/ safety logs are permitted. 

Barbecues must only be used on the towpath they are not permitted to be used on the front or rear decks.

The boat must not be steered by anyone under the age of 18 unless there is an adult supervising.

Smoking is not permitted inside the boat.

No portable gas appliances are permitted onboard.

The boat has a 1800w 240v inverter, however it is not capable of operating high power appliances such as electric kettles and toasters. Hair dryers and straighteners are fine in the forward sockets.

Fishing off the boats rear deck is permitted once the boat is moored but you must have a valid rod license and fishing permit from Warrington anglers. These must be shown to the company on arrival.

No live bait or wet tackle to be stored inside the boat.

Minimal Fishing equipment only.

Cancellation by the Hirer

The company operates a cancellation policy of 4 weeks prior to arrival. In the event of cancellation within this time the Hirer will forfeit the deposit. In the event of cancellation less than the 4 weeks to arrival the Hirer is liable for the whole of the balance of the hire fee, even though the Hirer may be prevented from taking up the booking. However, under such circumstances, the company will endeavour to re-let the vessel. If successful, the Hirer will forfeit the deposit. We therefore recommended that the Hirer purchases a holiday cancellation policy.

Cancellation by the Company

Whilst the company will endeavour to operate as advertised, no liability will be accepted for any cancellation, breakdown or unpunctuality however caused. In the event of the company cancelling, all monies paid by the Hirer will be returned in full and the Hirer will have no further claim against us.

Holiday Insurance

The Company does not provide personal holiday insurance covering cancellation, injury or loss or damage of personal effects. 

Company Insurance

The company insures the boat and its equipment in the the event of loss or damage. The company also insures against public liability claims. The Company insurance does not cover personal accident, loss or damage to personal effects. Hirers are advised to take out their own personal insurance cover. 

Accidents

The Hirer is liable for the first £500.00 of any insurance claim caused by an accident.

The Hirer is in charge of the boat and is responsible for its safe navigation and return. In the event of an accident the Hirer must:

- Obtain the other parties boat name and number. 

- Obtain the name, address and contact number of the other party involved.

- Notify the Company by telephone immediately with full details of the accident including damage incurred.

Under no circumstances should the hirer or anybody onboard except liability.

Age limits/ Unsuitable hirers

The main ​Hirer must be aged 25 years or over. The company may cancel any booking and refuse to hand over the boat to any hirer/hirers if the company believe they are under the influence of drink or drugs.  

The company may also refuse to hand over the boat if they feel the hirer/hirers are not competent to take charge and could jeopardize the safety of others onboard or others using the Bridgewater Canal. In this case all money paid by the hirer will be refunded and the Hirer will have no further claim against us.

Pets

Up to two pets are welcome onboard, however they must be house trained and must not be allowed on any furniture or bedding. A cost of £15.00 per pet is payable on arrival. 

Car Parking

The Company provides car parking free of charge, However we do not accept liability for any damaged caused..

Brochures 

Brochures are as accurate as possible at the time of going to press. We cannot be held liable for any inaccuracies or changes.

VAT

VAT is included in the prices at the rate of 20%. If this rate changes prior to payment of deposit and/or final balance the Company reserves the right to apply the revised rate to the Hirers booking.
